Parallel victory

sun through the treesThis is probably going to sound silly, but I parallel parked today when I visited the library. I was dropping off some books to donate, so I wanted a close parking place. The only one available required parallel parking.

I realize this is a skill most people learn when they are decades younger than I am. However, I have literally never before properly backed into a single-car space, then turned the front of the car so I would be parallel to the curb. And today, I did it.

Also? It got cold enough last night that there were no gnats at the girl’s bus stop this morning!

And … our neighbor has a couple bookcases sitting by the curb, free for the taking. My husband asked where I thought they could go. After some thought, I pointed out a couple places in the dining room. Is this ideal? No, but it’ll do for now.

So those are a few of the things I’m grateful for today. What are you grateful for?

Yay for successful parallel parking! I’ve always been able to parallel park with ease. 3-point turns, though? Never my best driving skill.

    • Interesting. I’ve always been able to do 3-point (K) turns, but parking in general has always been a scary thing for me. I’m so worried about hitting other cars that even in a parking lot, I try not to park in a space that has cars on both sides!

  2. Victory! I learned a trick for parallel parking which almost always works for me, so I don’t mind doing it as long as there’s nobody behind me. As soon as there’s traffic and irritated drivers around, all bets are off.

    • Oh, yeah! The fact that it was a pretty empty street helped.

Also, one-way street, and I was parking on the left side. I don’t know if I could do it on the right side.

  3. Nice work on the parking. You’d be surprised at how many people learn it well enough to pass the test and then forget.

And free bookcases? That’s a win no matter where you need to tuck them :D.

    • Thanks. When I took the test in Nevada, they didn’t require parallel parking.

And someone else nabbed the bookcases. πŸ™
