If it’s Tuesday, this still must be France

Or, I’m still proofreading. You may have noticed I didn’t get my weekly gratitude post up yesterday. That’s because my computer was busy crashing and corrupting files, so I had to do some disk maintenance, run a virus/malware scan (just in case), and repair disk permissions. That didn’t leave a lot of time for things like blogs.

Something to be grateful for: that trilingual index I talked about last week? I think they liked it; the press contacted me today to ask about doing another index for them.

Something else: I am, as I said, still proofreading. The two titles I’m working on slipped into overlapping, and this client doesn’t usually like someone to work on two projects for them at the same time. However, I’ve got enough done that it seems feasible to them. I’ve also shown myself to be reliable in the past. All good.

All of this does, of course, mean I need to work more on figuring out my balance — how do I get work done instead of just shoving it all away until I have a break from the freelance work? Balancing when I only have one thing to do at a time (or three things, currently on my work calendar) is easy. When I don’t have work, I can write — except it’s not that easy because then I stress about not having work and wanting more income.

I mentioned at the beginning of the month that I’m trying to work on my epic fantasy. Yeah, I wrote a bit over 2k on it at the beginning of the month and haven’t touched it since. I’m thinking I may switch to giving myself 30 minutes to work on it at the beginning of the day, before I open my work files, so that at least I’m getting something done. It won’t be as much or as fast as I would like, but it’ll be a lot faster than it’s going now.

I am trying to squeeze in some editing on the weekends so I can still get the paranormal romance up for sale.

I’ve also picked back up the hand-quilting I’m doing for my son, and I poke at it (or my fingers; I’ve never gotten the hang of a thimble) while watching my husband play video games.

My life is full, and I have much to be grateful for. Thanks for reading.

    I miss the Q & A’s presentations.

    • I’d almost forgotten about doing those. Okay, they’ll go back into the rotation of posts. 🙂

  2. I hear you on the balance. I like the idea of thirty minutes before starting work. It won’t really take away from the workday but it will keep the writing moving forward.

    Good luck!

    • If today’s any indication, that 30 minutes will expand to take up as much time as I’m willing to let it. (As if all work won’t!)

      Thanks, Alex!

  3. I’m sitting on one end of the see-saw with nobody on the other side. 🙂 Best of luck to you. Writing for 30 minutes a day sounds like a great way to forge ahead!

    • You’ve got to be so excited with your launch next week! 😀

That’s a great image for the lack of balance.

      Thanks!

  4. Sometimes I think it’s not a matter of finding time, but being in a mind/spirit place where I can let the fiction roll in.

    • That makes sense. When I’m stressed, I have a hard time writing, no matter how much time I have.

      Thanks for chiming in!
