Camping out at my keyboard

Camp NaNoWriMo participant badgeI was going to do a big post about Camp NaNoWriMo, but Nicki wrote about it so much better already: Off to Camp.

This post, then, simply serves to say that I am joining in the fun this summer; I’ve signed up for both June and August. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that I’m writing epic fantasy this year, or that I’m writing in a world where music and magic are inextricably intertwined. My plan is to start writing on June 1 and keep going until I either finish the series or have to take time off to write sequels to other books (like my next cozy mystery!).

I plan to keep up on my regular posting; don’t worry about that. 🙂

If you’re a writer, are you heading off to Camp NaNo this summer? What summer plans do you have, writer or not?

  1. Badges! *run*

    Thanks for the trackback!

    • I’m probably going to put the smaller badge in the sidebar. 🙂

You almost wound up with two trackbacks, as my son’s band concert was last night . . .

  2. Good luck, Erin!!!

  3. I’m in. Sort of. I have 7k of a novel (which you’ve previewed) that I need to get done ASAP. This is the perfect excuse.

Good luck with your epic fantasy. Have fun!

    • Absolutely a good excuse and great motivator! (I might be just a teensy bit prejudiced because I want to read the rest of the book. 😉 )

      Thank you!

  4. I’m doing an unofficial camp Nano in August to finally finish the third and final book in my Sorcerers’ Twilight series.

  5. Definitely heading off to Camp NaNoWriMo. Already have my novel info chucked in the boxes and notes spilling out the sides of folders. As for the August session…not sure what to write in there yet, exactly…but I’ll figure it out.

As for other summer activities…none? Maybe some cooking, since Camp isn’t complete without marshmallows, but mostly writing, editing, revising, beta-reading…I’m not all that interesting =)

    Happy noveling,
    Voss

    • Mmmm. Must figure out how to do virtual s’mores. Couldn’t very well type while eating real ones.

Hooray for being all packed up for camp already! I’m still working on my world-building. A week to go . . .

      Thanks for commenting, Voss!

  6. I didn’t know that NaNoWriMo had a camp? The one year I participated in NaNo I became a nervous wreck. 🙂

    • Last year, they opened Camp NaNoWriMo for one month during the summer, but I was on vacation and couldn’t do it. This year, they’ve expanded to two months. It’s aimed at those who find November too hectic, as well as those of us who like the craziness. Same goal — 50,000 words in a month.

Sorry to hear you became a nervous wreck. I’ve done NaNo every year since 2003, and I hit the goal more often than not. In fact, the mystery I have for sale started life in NaNo, as did the paranormal romance I’m (in theory) editing this month.

      Thanks for commenting!

  7. Music and magic-what a great combination! Good luck.
