April is the weirdest month

Weird for weather, at least, although maybe not the weirdest (it was 70 degrees on December 22). Last week was beautiful spring weather. Weekend temps got up into the low 80s, and then the cold front moved through and there was snow on the grass this morning. The weekend encouraged the flowers, and fortunately, the cold doesn’t seem to have been drastic enough to have killed them. So here’s what’s blooming in the front yard now:

hyacinths and daffodils

You remember that bed full of croci? Now it’s hyacinths and white daffodils. A couple of tulips are even budding, for the first time in a few years!

white hellebore

The last hellebore made its way out of the ground.

hellebore

This is the hellebore that was just emerging last week. Now it’s lifting its flowers to be seen.

hellebore

Why, yes, I do like hellebores.

hyacinths

Out next to the mailbox, the white and pink hyacinths are blooming.

  1. Spring flowers in the northeast are used to the erratic weather. A little snow is nothing to them 😀

  2. Yay for spring flowers. They’re there just when we’re about to give it up.
