Migraine Monday

Yeah, not the best day to try to be productive on. Still, I managed to add words to Treachery as I worked on finishing up the edits. No exercise, though, and I’m planning to crawl into a dark room after my husband gets home.

I really need to get more words to get that average back up. Not today, but later this week, for sure.

Cookie sale Sunday

Part of the day went to standing outside Walmart as the “extra adult” for the Girl Scout table. Afterward, daughter and I went grocery shopping, and she told the woman at the kids’ playroom that she’d just been selling cookies. “Why didn’t you sell me any?” “We still can.” Upshot: seven more boxes sold!

Another quiet Sunday!

Easing into the water

Do you jump into the lake, or do you go in a few inches at a time, trying to acclimate? For book two, I’m doing the latter. Trying to set the scene, reintroduce characters from the first book, and hook people into the current story. So the first couple of days are going to be slow as I build my foundations (and make certain I have my outline together so speed will pick up).

It was a full day quite apart from the writing — I did some freelance copyediting, made chicken paprikash (and had to go to the store for more paprika), did some housework (a chunk of which was just getting the kids to take their books into their rooms), and played D&D (in which I threw a green hag, some witches, an aspect of a demon lord, and some werewolf elves at the PCs; the PCs survived, and no one even got turned into a werewolf, though not for lack of trying).

Friday slump

Well, only a writing slump, but I did still get words.

I got about half the remaining chapters for Treachery of Doubt edited today, plus made some good strides on planning out the next urban fantasy.

Feeling really tired — looking forward to sleeping in both days of the weekend. Saturday’s going to be some freelance work and visiting the library. Sunday, my daughter and I are on for an hour of Girl Scout cookie sales, but I think the rest of the day is free.

Friday bit of cuteness:

If that’s not enough cute for you, check out the #cuteanimaltweetoff on Twitter.

What’s up with you? Do you have any fun or exciting weekend plans? Have you seen cute pictures lately? Drop a note in the comments!

Yes! First one done!

Complete at 76,972. This book is off to my first readers, who will no doubt tell me “You don’t need this scene, you should’ve circled back to this, and by the way, you have a dozen typos on the fifth page.” Well, maybe not that many typos clustered together.

Why not do the exercises? I need to do something with this bounce-off-the-walls energy because I’m so excited at hitting the end.

And then I’ll get some freelance work in and poke at the outline of the next book in this series — and tomorrow? I work on editing Sabra’s second book.

Midweek

Not as physically laborious today, but still busy  — writing, working on stuff for SFWA, formally announcing I’m standing for election to finish out the term I’m serving as Director — plus family stuff, son and his friends hanging out for the afternoon because today was a finals make-up day at school, daughter going to Brownies … Lots going on, and I’m up too late. Might need a nap tomorrow to compensate.

Full day, but not with words

I got some words, yes. Didn’t want to break my streak, after all.

What else did I do with my day? Hauled Girl Scout cookies, which accounts for hundreds of reps of twists and lifts, and dozens of curls and static carries. Also a bit more of a workout than my still-recovering breathing apparatus was up for. On the other hand, it was awesome to just meet up with other women from the local troops and work together on a joint project and just feel like I clicked. I’m going to be getting more involved with my daughter’s group, and I’m happy about that.

Monday marches on

broken walnut branchIt’s a bit stormy through the Mid-Atlantic right now. Last night, as I was going to bed, I heard something fall. Worried about it, wondered about it — but nothing came crashing through the roof, so I went to sleep. This morning, I found this branch off the walnut tree in our backyard. I’ve been meaning to call someone to deal with it for a while now. Anyway, I now have a to-do on my list for March (better weather, I hope) to call someone to take it down — with the phone number, so I don’t have any excuse.

Today is, without a doubt, the best writing day I’ve had in a long time. I hit that “the end is sight” point (though really it’s still thousands of words away), and everything just started flowing. Very pleased about this.

I didn’t exercise today mostly because I was so busy sitting at the computer typing. Tomorrow, I’ll get different exercise — lifting many boxes of Girl Scout cookies for transport — so I’ll be counting that, regardless of whether I do formal reps of any sort.

Sunday, slow day

Mostly a quiet family day, prepping for the week. Enjoyed watching husband and son game together (Lord of the Rings: War of the North).

I decided that, having missed so many exercise days last week, I was better off repeating my 3-rep week.

Off we go into week four!

Saturday slumber

Slept in this morning, then drowsed* for a couple more hours after getting up. Spent the afternoon and evening (as I told Nicki in response to her comment on yesterday’s post) eating Girl Scout cookies and playing games with my son. (Games were Cathedral, which my in-laws gave us as a family gift at Christmas, and the Order of the Stick game, which we borrowed from friends a while back.)

Eventually, I got words. More than Friday, even, though still low.

* Thank you, Laura, for pointing out the error. I hadn’t noticed autocorrect’s usual attempts to dumb down my vocabulary by substituting a more common (and completely incorrect) word for what I actually typed.
