Nothing says Valentine’s Day like more snow

If you’ve paid attention to the news this past week (or if you’re on the East Coast yourself), you know about the blizzard this week. I’m getting kind of tired of all the snow days the kids have had (two last week, two this week, more snow coming next week — I think we’re around twelve snow days for the year so far?). There’s no question that they’ve been warranted, though. A foot of snow and ice? Yeah, you don’t want kids walking to school in that, or school buses trying to drive in it. So, for your viewing pleasure, the latest shots of the yard.

A Valentine’s Tree!

mailbox in the snow

Oh, look, the mailbox isn’t *quite* buried!

Back deck and grill buried under snow

The back deck. No plans to grill this week.

backyard buried in snow

The backyard. Note the geodesic jungle gym for the kids, half buried.

the dogwood, in snow

The (almost obligatory by now) shot of the dogwood after the latest storm.

  1. Wow, that’s a lot of snow. Hope next week it isn’t as bad.

    • Thanks! Actually, it’s supposed to warm up into the 40s with lots of rain the second half of the week. Good thing the yard slopes away from the house! πŸ™‚

  2. It’s pretty! But wears thin after awhile. Hugs.

  3. SNOW!!!!! πŸ™

    Well … actually … SNOW!!!! πŸ˜€ …

How deep is that stuff you your back yard? … lovely big yard by the way!

    • You’re welcome to our snow. πŸ˜‰ Actually, if I could think of any way to get it there, I’d ship it all to the Sierras (which is, I know, rather south of you). They could use it!

I think there’s at least two feet in the back yard. We had snow. Then we got three inches or so of ice on top of it, sealing it in. Then a few more inches of snow that packed on top. Then this foot or so. Plus another inch or two last night and today.

Yes, we wanted a good-sized yard so the boy and dog would have room to romp. Think it’s actually bigger than necessary for that, and my husband would really like a riding mower to deal with it in the summer. It does look nice, though. πŸ˜€

  4. I like the dogwood with snow.

    • Thanks. We’re due for another couple of inches tomorrow night.

Our front walk is still buried under ice. If I’m going to go out for something, I go out the garage door . . .
