Migraine yesterday; no drawing. Still headachey today, but well enough for a simple sketch. Didn’t use a reference, so the perspective is most likely off.
This one is based on a picture I took of my daughter years ago at a nearby park. She was holding a ladybug in her hands, and we were waiting for my husband and son who were biking from the other end of this path.
When this picture was just the black outlines, it looked rather foreboding.
I spent most of the day sitting outside for a yard sale that didn’t get much sold. (On the other hand, we earned something.) You might think this would have been the ideal time for me to sketch, but in the swarms of gnats, that just wasn’t feasible. So after that and making dinner and getting my daughter to bed, I just wanted to do something simple (cue suggestions from son of crazy lady in a lightning storm and from husband of puppy stuck in a tree) — not faces or hands.
Today, I experimented with some calligraphy/drawing ink I have, plus some gum arabic, and the same pens I’ve been using. Note to self: pen over gum arabic doesn’t work well. Still, I think it turned out rather well.
Been busy all day, what with grocery shopping, the girl’s soccer, and gaming with friends. Finally sat down with pen and paper. In this case, a Uniball Signo. And the image I found on Twitter, linked from Tumblr (and because of the way iOS apps don’t always play well with others, I can’t even figure out whose Tumblr it was shared from, as if I click the “visit” link on Pinterest, I get the “please sign in” page for Tumblr, even though I’m signed in on the app; I’ll try to track down the original tomorrow — EDIT: Original is from http://absinthius.tumblr.com/post/38389336640/octopus).
This is based on a picture I took at Animal Ark last year. My proportions are all off, and I really should have done a pencil underdrawing to try to position the spots better. And maybe at some point this month, I’ll figure out how to use the different pen widths.
